So I went gaming last night, I know I know, it actually happens once in awhile! What the other guys don't know is I really only go to show off my Armorcast stuff.  Grin

But here's my thought:
I woke up this morning bright eyed and bushy tailed, replaying the previous nights events. I remembered that the fellas wanted not only cool terrain but terrain that TOTALLY blocked line of sight. They don't want much do they? Gamers never do right? Well anyway, as I woke up I was making some coffee, and there before me was this big metal coffee can. I looked at it and thought to myself,
"Self.(I call myself SELF when I talk to myself)...now THIS would have blocked their stupid line of sight!"

So I am looking at this big 34.5 ounce metal can and I think yea...I can go old school. I can put paper around it to get rid of the ridges and then paint it then.....but then I had a thought. What about a topping? Well Armorcast-offs are coming....okay but what about a base? THEN (And now I am getting to the point) I thought about the Soda can terrain. They have a base AND a topper!!! So what aobut that Matt and Gin? I t sure could make for a cool container for a sci-fi game.

Just a random thought........

We were actually toying with this idea.  We were trying to figure out how we could do a spiral staircase that winds around it. Turning it into the picture below. Upon further research we found straight ladders and fire escape style staircases on the big oil tanks. We would also want to try to make a thin "shell" to cover the ridges. The fragility of the shell and complexity of casting the spiral stairs have slowed it's development.

Nice to see great minds think alike. Of course it's not really a compliment for YOU....but it makes ME look good to think like you all! I will put all three brain cells of mine into work and ponder this.

i'd actually leave the ridges. They're are plenty of grain and feed silos around here that are made out of a type of corrugated metal.

As far as fire escapes go...i'd love those for the modular stucco buildings.

you might not have to have a spiral staircase...back home in Texas, we have tanks like that that have a standard straight ladder going up the side, with a platform halfway up, creating a stop point for equipment or a rest...

just a thought...the sprial staircase would be cooler, but maybe not practical from a casting standpoint...

The answer might be in Sylvas' post. Make a spiral staircase in two parts. Have the first level go to a platform and then half the second have go from there to the top. the plarform could be a ring around the tank or a fixed point rectangle. Another cool option would be an industrial lift. Have it in a girder frame with an elevator platform that would slide along the girders like they were tracks. Heck you could even make the staircase, platform and lift compatible --that would be awesome.

All great ideas. Maybe a we can do all three. I don't drink coffee and my wife is a coffee snob (little bags of Starbucky frou frou coffees). Are there standard sizes for coffee cans?

I might have some laying around...I know that a few of the ones we have laying around are the new plastic ones, but we may have some of the old metal ones around the attic...
