Hi all,

I'm working on an ork battlewagon and putting gun bursts on all the shootas.

Any advice on how to get a good look on them?

Thanks,

Josh

Ok, you have a good base of orange now. I would have ready a lighter orange paint, a warm yellow - like a school bus yellow color and white. Keep the center of the burst dark, that would be near the base of the flash ansd cone shape area meet. Then start to apply lighter orange over the rest of the flash, then start adding yellow as a highlight then start adding white to the tips of the cone and  base of the flash.

Good advise Mr.Ginfritter.
I used around base(gun barrel) "red-orange" then added over coated with a meduim orange(light dry brushed) with over coated light orange(very very light dry brush more towards tip) then came back with black ink wash.
Grooves on piece really grabs the ink so be light (less is more)on ink wash untill you get effect you want.
Black Ink wash used well hides a lot of "sins".   When doing "lighter oranges"  less is more for a good effect.
If you like "white" idea ignore black Ink wash.  It will muddy up white paint.
Have you looked at    "Mr.Jody's  Storm Orks with cinematic effects?"

Pax, I agree on the black ink for orky blasts since they would use quesionable quality gunpowder but for other higher tech minatures and game systems i would use either a dark red or chestnut brown wash as to not muddy up the brightness of the flash.

I've had good luck painting the blasts pure white and drybrushing with a good strong yellow then hitting the very tips of the spiky things near the gun with a light orange. Remember, these things are emitting light, so they are not going to be dark in color. Different kind of blast but the principal is the same.

Shawn r.l.
love your "stuff"    snotlings  were to way cool on last pic. post i seen.
i believe he was talk about us meager mortals.  Tongue (painting skill)   white would/maybe work towards muzzle but not projectal on guns/ machine guns.  and it wouldn't be on every gun(ie...  night vision effects ) but that was my life experience .
His battle wagons show signs of ink wash. Which is why i brought it up.

I was just talking about 'gunpowder blasts'. Some of the so called advanced things I do are really no big deal. Sometimes when something has a real dramatic effect it's easy to assume it's really hard to do.

It’s been far too long since I updated this thread.

Here are some ork battlewagons that I think are pretty much done.  I spent far too long dithering around trying to decide how to paint the gun blasts.  Once I just did it I was pretty happy with how they turned out.

Now that IA8 is out, I need a battlewagon with a good lifta-droppa conversion to add to the bunch.
