So I am painting up my new soda can storage units. BEUTIFUL stuff! Anyway, while I was about to paint them a friend of mine gave me a suggestion. They thought it might be smart to fill the soda cans (actually they are beer cans!!) with that spray foam.

I went to my local Home Depot and bought this stuff called "Great Stuff" and boy did it live up to it's name! I sprayed this in the cans and although it did not add much or if any weight it has made me much more secure in the handling of this terrain. With the insides filled there is going to be a lot less damage to these very thin aluminum cans!! NO DENTS JUST FROM TRANSPORTING?Huh

Anyway, hope this helps you all as much as it helped me.

I also hope to get pics of them up soon.....

Awesome idea! I've yet to paint mine, because I've been worrying about dents and flaking paint.  I have some great stuff at home, and I'll try it out!
Another use for Great stuff in terrain making is for alien/tyranid terrain.  If you spray some out and the spread it around with your hands (wear gloves), it makes a nice gooey/lumpy texture (not unlike the zerg 'creep' in Starcraft)

As far as the can toppers go, are you having trouble getting the toppers to fit into the bottom of the cans?  I may just have picked up some odd cans, but my toppers seem a little too large.  I'm gonna have to take my Dremel to them...

I remember mine needed a bit of a trim to get to fit. Dremel makes short work of it, and they look sweet!!
A tip on the foam, wrap the end of the can where your spraying foam with wide masking tape that extends over the edge of the can about an inch. If any expands past the opening you wont get any on the can,and you can trim the foam off with a knife and get to painting!!

Well to be honest I had MASSIVE overspill, hey I had my 7 year old help me!!

But I knew that I was going to sandpapper to the outside of the can anyway. I wanted to give them some sorta texture. As it turned out, this worked out pretty well. Gave the cans a bit of extra textrue and I was much happier.
